Japan's poetry is very sophisticated, it is influenced by Chinese poetry, but it also has its own features. Japanese poetry has many different forms, and Haiku is one renowned form, it is now created not only in Japanese, but also in other languages, such as English. Many forms had specific requirement on rhyming and syllables. You can also view the following example of a Haiku.
An old silent pond...
A frog jumps into the pond,
splash! Silence again.
a worm digs silently
into the chestnut.
In the twilight rain
these brilliant-hued hibiscus -
A lovely sunset.
